Australian Energy Efficiency Schemes Summary

Australia is fortunate to have several state government mandated incentive schemes that reward homeowners and businesses for adopting Energy Efficient practices and installing Energy Efficient Products.
Emerald Planet is uniquely situated to design, import, register and supply a wide range of Energy Efficient Products to our extensive network of accredited businesses operating within these programs. For instance Emerald Planet has imported and sold many millions of energy efficient LED lamps, CFLs (compact fluorescent lamps), Solar PV systems, LED tubes, Standby Saving Powerboards/Energy Saving Powerboards and weather sealing products all supported by these incentive schemes. A summary of current schemes can be found below:

Victoria

Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET)

  • Households and businesses are rewarded for upgrading to energy-efficient products, provided by government-accredited businesses. Carbon certificates (VEECs) are created for these activities, ultimately enabling the products to be installed at a subsidised rate to the customer. The VEECs are traded on the open market within Victoria and bought by Energy Retailers in order to meet their mandatory targets each year.
  • Emerald Planet currently supplies products specifically approved for the following activities within the VEET scheme;
    • Replacement of a range of inefficient commercial and industrial lighting with efficient LED lighting (e.g. high bays, floodlights, emergency lights etc.)
    • Replacement of incandescent, halogen and CFL lamps with LED A-Bulbs,
    • Replacement of halogen downlights with LED downlights,
    • Replacement of T8 fluoro tubes with LED tubes, LED panels and LED battens
    • Installation of weather sealing Door Seals and Fan Seals

New South Wales

Energy Saving Scheme (ESS)

  • The ESS follows a very similar structure to VEET in Victoria. Energy Saving Certificates (ESCs) are created when households and businesses adopt approved energy-efficient products, installed by accredited businesses. The ESCs enable the products to be installed at a subsidised rate. Like VEECs in Victoria, ESCs are then traded on the open market within NSW and bought by Energy Retailers in order to meet their mandatory targets each year.
    • Replacement of a range of inefficient commercial and industrial lighting with efficient LED lighting (e.g. high bays, floodlights, emergency lights etc.)
    • Replacement of incandescent, halogen and CFL lamps with LED A-Bulbs
    • Replacement of halogen downlights with LED downlights
    • Replacement of T8 fluoro tubes with LED panels and LED battens

Australian Capital Territory

Energy Efficiency Incentive Scheme (EEIS)

  • The Energy Efficiency Incentive Scheme (EEIS) provides an incentive framework for homes and businesses to implement a range of energy-efficient technologies including: lighting, space heating and cooling, appliances, weather sealing and efficient hot water.

South Australia

Retailer Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES)

  • The REES follows a similar structure to VEET and ESS. Installations of energy-efficient products in commercial and residential sectors are given a deemed value for the amount of energy saved, and like the equivalent programs in NSW and VIC, the energy-efficient products are installed at a subsidised rate. These savings are then reported by the Energy Retailers in order to meet mandatory targets each year.
  • Emerald Planet currently supplies products specifically for the following activities within the REES scheme:
    • Replacement of a range of inefficient commercial and industrial lighting with efficient LED lighting
    • Replacement of incandescent lamps with CFLs
    • Installation of Standby Saving Powerboards/Energy saving Powerboards
    • Replacement of halogen downlights with LED downlights
    • Installation of Draught Proofing Door Seals
    • Installation of Draught Proofing Chimney Balloons
